Angel Paintings Gallery by Jane Delaford Taylor
I have been painting angels and angel meditation pieces for some time - either to commission or as gallery pieces for sale. I love to use vivid colours and gold leaf - the resulting images are a blend of romanticism and pure abstract, exquisite detail and unruly brushstrokes blending together on one canvas… angels are iconic, archetypal beings that people connect with on a deep level emotionally - they appear throughout history across all religions, in legend, folklore and literature, but I feel their image needs updating for the 21st century and beyond...

'Sebastian' - Oil on canvas 24 inches high x 20 wide. This is the guardian angel of a good friend of mine, who commissioned the painting. He asked me to visualise the angel, which I did - and apparently everyone (angel included) is pleased with the result! I so enjoyed painting this one! He holds a glowing orb which represents creation; energised and protected by the Divine I Am, and eternally connected to Source.

This is Michael, of course! Gentle and protective, and six feet high (see pic below!) - the twin to the canvas Angel of Healing (opposite, which now hangs in a very popular Yorkshire healing clinic to overlight the reiki, EFT and homeopathy sessions!)

pure angel energy...
requires a meditational state in the artist, and often this is best expressed using pure colour without images - for this type of work I use a ragging technique with the oil paint, to blend and spread the paint into bursts of light.
detail from 'Michael'....
Although the upper part of the canvas is highly detailed, the lower half depicting cloak and sword break up into abstract form with the gold leaf applied carefully to enhance the movement that's created by the shapes of colour - this also catches the light amazingly and really makes the whole painting glow. I use 23 carat gold leaf which is very soft and flakes easily during application with gold size. On the canvas surface this results in a freestyle 'distressed' effect which contrasts well with the detailed work - creating the impression of bursting energy and light!
